I spoke to Attorney Gyi Tsakalakis, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of AttorneySync.com, about his work helping lawyers with their marketing and SEO.
Hi Gyi, can you tell me about yourself and your lawyer marketing business?
Sure Debra. I was a practicing plaintiff’’s lawyer / go-to technology person for a ten lawyer law firm in Michigan. My business partner, Jeff Berman, had six years experience in online marketing in the home services vertical, approached me about branching out into the legal field. We began building AttorneySync in the summer of 2008. Our core focus has always been to provide accountable, effective, and affordable web marketing services to small to medium sized law firms.

How did you get into marketing? I think I recall seeing somewhere you’re an attorney.
I am on hiatus from practice in order to give my full attention to AttorneySync. I got into online lawyer marketing mainly because I was surprised at how expensive and ineffective many of the larger online lawyer marketing providers are and how little their lawyer clients realize it.
In your opinion what are the biggest mistakes attorneys make with their marketing strategies?
Failing to measure and hold the strategy (or service) accountable. Lawyers need to set measurable goals and then identify whether or not a particular strategy is meeting those goals.
What is the best advice you can give to lawyers that are ready to invest in some new marketing strategies?
Ask questions. Measure results. Hold law firm marketers accountable for results. Lawyers are professional question askers. However, when it comes to law firm marketing, many lawyers don’t ask the right questions. That is why we make it a priority to educate lawyers about the traps, scams, and pitfalls of lawyer internet marketing.
